Safer Gambling Week 2022 – Let’s Talk About Safer Gambling

Safer Gambling Week

What is Safer Gambling Week?

The Safer Gambling Week is a cross-industry initiative organised by the Betting and Gaming Council with the support of other partners across the industry.

The Safer gambling week has been running since 2017, and continually strives to encourage and promote safer gambling practices across the industry. Results from the 2021 campaign showed an impressive 17% increase in the use of safer gambling tools.

The Safer Gambling Week Website encourages people to “talk openly about gambling and to equip themselves with the knowledge and tools to control and gamble more safely”.

What’s the key messaging this year?

Let’s Talk: About Safer Gambling
Take Action: Safer Gambling Tools (self exclusion, deposit limits, etc)
Get Support: Advice & Helplines (Gamcare, The National Gambling Treatment Service, Support for Young People. etc)

Let’s Talk

The let’s Talk part of the campaign encourages people to talk about their gambling and highlights the importance of setting limits, remembering gambling is not a way to make money and how to recognise the warning signs involved in gambling.

During Safer Gambling Week, you can follow the conversation online using the hastag #SGWeek22.

Take Action

The Take Action section focuses on how to use Safer gambling tools to manage relationships and interactions with gambling. Safer Gambling Tools include:

Set your Limits: All licensed gambling operators, including remote operators, offer ways to help you keep track of the time and money you are spending gambling.

Block gambling websites: BetBlocker, Gamban, GamBlock

Limit the gambling content you see: To limit the gambling content and adverts you see on social media, follow the links here.

Block gambling payments with your bank: Most major banks now offer the ability to limit spending on gambling. If you are concerned that you are spending too much on gambling, you may want to consider blocking gambling transactions with your bank.

Get Support

The Get Support section is a really useful and valuable section where you can find sources of help and advice to aid more responsible, safer gambling.

If you have concerns about your own, or someone else’s gambling there is lots of support and advice available including helplines, websites, online chats, and forums.

If you’re looking for support, here are some fantastic places to start listed on the Safer Gambling website.

Bingo Paradise is pleased to support Safer Gambling Week 2022 and provides additional Safer Gambling resources here.
