888 Casino is operated for British customers by 888 UK Limited, from Europort in Gibraltar, under account number 39028 on the Gambling Commission's register.

It is one of the oldest names in online gambling and one of the largest, running 78 websites by the regulator’s count. Size and longevity usually work in a casino’s favour in these reviews. Here they cut both ways, and the second half of this review explains why.

Welcome offer

100 free spins on selected Pragmatic Play slots, jackpot titles excluded. You deposit £10 or more with the code WELCOME100FS, then wager £10 of real money on slots within seven days of the deposit.

The spins are 10p each, stated in the terms, which makes this £10 of stake. That is honest arithmetic and better than the market habit of building a big number out of 5p spins.

Two conditions to note. Neteller and Skrill deposits are excluded, so the offer will not trigger if you pay in with either. And the qualifying wager has to happen within seven days of the deposit, which is a reasonable window but not an open one.

The promo code is worth a word in the site’s favour. Plenty of casinos use an opt-in toggle somewhere in the registration flow, and people miss it and lose the offer with no way to prove they meant to claim it. A code is unambiguous: you either entered it or you did not.

What the terms do not say

One gap, and we flag it because we check for it on every review. The significant terms set out how to qualify in detail but say nothing about wagering on the free spin winnings.

Silence is not the same as none. The sites we rate most highly state "no wagering requirements" in plain words, and where a set of terms does not mention it, the answer is usually in the longer bonus policy. Read that before you play the spins rather than after, because it is the term that decides what £10 of spins is actually worth to you.

Games

One of the largest lobbies in the British market: slots, roulette, blackjack, baccarat, video poker, scratch cards and an extensive live casino running its own studios, including an Elite Lounge and a set of exclusive tables. There is also poker and sport under the same group.

If breadth is what you are after, very few sites match this, and the live dealer operation is genuinely one of the better ones rather than a supplier feed with a logo on it.

The operator's record

This is where the score is decided, and there are two findings rather than one.

On 1 March 2022, 888 UK Limited was fined £9.4m for social responsibility and anti-money-laundering failures. The Commission found the company ran financial checks only after £40,000 of deposits, failed to interact with a customer who lost £37,000 over six weeks during the pandemic, and set a monthly deposit cap of £1,300 for an NHS worker earning £1,400 a month. Customer interactions were conducted largely by email without requiring any reply. One customer opened eleven accounts despite a restriction on one of them, and another spent £65,835 in five months without source of funds verification.

In August 2017 it paid £7.8m over failures to protect self-excluded and vulnerable customers. That package included repaying £3.5m deposited by self-excluded customers and £62,000 in compensation to an employer whose money had been stolen by a customer. That customer staked more than £1.3m, including £55,000 taken from their employer, gambling three to four hours a day over thirteen months.

The Commission made the connection between them explicitly: "The circumstances of the last enforcement action may be different but both cases involve failing consumers, and this is something that is not acceptable."

That sentence is why this review lands where it does. A single penalty can be a system that failed and was fixed. A regulator pointing out that it has been here before is a different statement, and it belongs in front of a reader deciding where to open an account.

How to read a record like this

A fair question at this point is whether a penalty from 2022 should affect where you play in 2026, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a shrug.

Two things are true at once. The site is licensed, the money has been paid, and the rules across the whole industry have tightened considerably since: affordability checks, deposit limits and verification before play are all far stricter than they were when these findings were made. A company that has been through two enforcement actions is also, in practice, one of the most closely watched in the market.

But the findings themselves are the sort that should change how you set your account up rather than whether you open it. The 2022 case turned on checks that came too late and interactions that went unanswered. The protection that does not depend on any of that is the limit you set yourself, on the day you register, before you have lost anything. Every licensed British site has to offer deposit limits, loss limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and they take effect immediately.

Use them here. That is the practical conclusion, and it is more useful than a recommendation either way.

888 Casino review summary

Three out of five. The offer is straightforward and honestly sized: 100 spins at a genuine 10p, a clear code, a week to qualify, and one of the biggest and best-built game libraries in the country behind it. On product alone this site would score higher than most.

It sits at three because of the record and the silence. £17.2m across two penalties, with the regulator noting the second was a repeat of the first in substance, is the heaviest history of any site reviewed here, and the findings involved self-excluded customers, stolen money and a deposit cap set above someone’s monthly salary. Set your own limits at registration rather than relying on the site to notice, and read the bonus policy on wagering before you play the spins.
