Voodoo Dreams

I had it on good authority that Voodoo Dreams was a historical fiction novel, by which I mean I searched for it and that was the first thing I found. The casino has since fixed its own search results, but the first impression stands: this is a site that put its effort somewhere other than marketing.

I have reviewed plenty of casinos that top the rankings for the most generic keywords and look like they were built by teenagers on GeoCities in 1995. This one has a neon aesthetic that is more Tron than voodoo, black and blue and bold, and it looks unlike any casino I had seen before. In an industry I criticise constantly for being samey, that is a good start.

It is operated by SuprPlay Limited under Gambling Commission account 48695, part of the SuprNation group, which has been trading since 2015 and also holds Maltese and Swedish licences.

Welcome Offer

The offer is 140 free spins, paid out over a week, and the site states it like this:

Significant Terms: Welcome offer for new players residing in Great Britain only. Opt in and deposit £25 for the first time to get up to 140 free spins, 20 free spins per day for 7 consecutive days on selected games. Free spins must be manually claimed each day via the pop-up. Unclaimed spins expire at midnight and do not roll over. Once claimed, free spins expire after 3 days. Free spin value £0.10. Maximum free spins winnings £100 per day. Winnings from free spins are credited as bonus money, subject to a 10x wagering requirement, and expire after 7 days if the wagering requirement is not met. Own payment methods only.

Read the shape of that rather than the number. The spins are 10p each, so all 140 carry £14 of stake for a £25 deposit, which is less than you put in. They arrive 20 at a time and only if you log in and claim them, every day, for 7 days running. Miss a day and that day's 20 are gone at midnight, though the rest of the week survives.

That is not a bonus so much as an attendance record. It is an honest one, since every condition is published on the banner rather than buried, and the 10x wagering is the legal maximum and touches only what the spins win. But the winnings arrive as bonus money, not cash, and that bonus dies in 7 days if you have not cleared the 10x. Go in knowing you are committing to a week.

Promotions

This is where the site is worth your time, and it is genuinely unlike anything else.

Playing earns two currencies. Experience points raise your level and unlock spells; spirit points are what you spend to cast them. The higher the level, the more powerful the spell and the more spirit points it costs. Strip the theme away and it is the usual arrangement where play earns rewards, but it is tied to the site's own world rather than bolted on, and it is not dull.

On top of that sit Duelz, where you take on another player, damage their health points by winning games, and collect the reward if you win. I had not seen a casino do anything like it before and it is the sort of thing the industry should try more often.

Games

The catalogue comes from the studios you would expect, NetEnt, Play'n GO and Big Time Gaming among them, with no shortage of jackpot slots, a full live casino and a decent set of virtual tables.

What I appreciate is the categorising. Most lobbies give you slots, tables and live and leave you to scroll. This one sorts by feature: feature buy games, Megaways, win both ways and Drops and Wins each have their own shelf. It is a small thing that saves real time when you know what you are in the mood for.

Depositing and Withdrawing

The minimum deposit is £25, which is where the welcome offer sets the bar and is higher than most sites ask. Visa and Mastercard debit cards, PayPal, Skrill and Neteller are all taken, deposits land instantly, and the site states most withdrawals are completed within 24 hours. There are no fees.

Two rules to note. The welcome offer requires your own payment methods, so a card in somebody else's name will not qualify you. And some methods listed in the footer are for other markets rather than for British accounts, so judge by what the cashier offers you rather than by the logos.

The safer gambling tools are the full set: deposit limits, cooling-off periods and the rest, available from the account area.

Customer Support

Live chat, stated as available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the site makes a point of saying it is staffed by people rather than a bot. On the evidence of using it, that holds up.

Review Summary

If I had a pound for every time I have complained about the lack of originality in this industry I could fund a casino of my own. This one actually tries, and does it without making the site hard to use.

Four stars. The spell system and the duels are unique, the lobby is sorted intelligently, support is staffed around the clock and the payments are quick. The welcome offer is a great deal better than the 60x monster it used to be.

What stops it reaching 5 is that offer all the same. A £25 minimum deposit is steep, £14 of spin value is less than the deposit that buys it, the spins have to be collected by hand on 7 consecutive days, and what they win arrives as bonus money on a 7 day fuse. The casino is better than its front door.
