I was once an avid user of Sky Bet, Sky Vegas, and Sky Poker. But that was a good 10 years ago. I still visit on a regular basis, but only to check the upcoming football/rugby games on Sky Bet—I find it’s the easiest way to see which games are on that day/weekend and which ones are televised. Needless to say, a long time has passed and a lot of things have no doubt changed. In fact, in that time the company has changed ownership structure twice, first by off-loading a sizeable stake to CVC Capital Partners and then by selling to Flutter Entertainment (then known as The Stars Group), making it a sister site of Betfair, PokerStars, and Paddy Power, among others. So, how has the brand progressed? Back then, I would have happily ranked it as one of the best online casinos in the UK—let’s see if that’s still the case in this Sky Vegas review. SkyVegas

Welcome Bonus

New Sky Vegas customers can collect 50 free spins as soon as they sign up and verify. Sky has always been somewhat of a pioneer when it comes to no deposit bonuses. The first time I saw one of these bonuses was back when I first joined Sky Bet all those years ago. Now, as then, you’ll need to register and verify your account (should happen automatically), before adding a debit card. After that, just open one of the qualifying games and you’ll be given your 50 free spins. From there, you can deposit and wager £10 or more to collect another 200 free spins. All spins expire in 7 days and have a value of 10p each. However, you can also increase the value of the free spins and receive a smaller number. Simply increase the stake in the game. Many of the games you can play with these free spins come from Blueprint Gaming, a developer I have praised many times in the past. Such games include the Goonies, Fishin’ Frenzy, and Eye of Horus. There are no wagering requirements, so you keep what you win.

Loyalty Bonus

The Prize Machine promotion is available daily for all Sky Vegas members. It’s a free bonus reel that can unlock cash payouts, free spins, and other prizes, with a maximum payout of £1,000. Just check the promotions section when you log in, make sure you have opted in, and then spin the Prize Machine. If you unlock one of the Bonus Rounds, you will be guaranteed a win. You won’t always win, and when you do, it might not be worth your while. But it’s free and there are some big prizes on offer, so it’s worth taking a shot.

Slots and Other Games

Sky Vegas is home to hundreds of slot machines and dozens of live casino games. The former come courtesy of many developers that are popular among UK players, including NetEnt and Blueprint Gaming. The latter are provided by Evolution Gaming, the parent company behind NetEnt and Red Tiger Gaming and the biggest innovator in the live casino space. As a big brand with plenty of sway and a massive userbase, it’s no surprise that Sky Vegas also has its fair share of exclusive games. These include live dealer titles like Sky Vegas Roulette and Sky Vegas Blackjack. They are basic but interesting, and it’s always a good sign when casinos do their own thing.

Deposits and Withdrawals

You can’t use PayPal on Sky Vegas if you are a new member. I’m not entirely sure why, but it’s not the first UK-focused site to make this decision, as noted in my BetVictor review. You can still use PayPal if you’re an active member who added it before the block, but if you’re reading this, that’s probably not true. Most debit cards are accepted on Sky Vegas. Payments are processed quickly. Even 10 years ago I didn’t have an issue with this part of the site and it seems to be even quicker and better these days.

Verdict: Sky Vegas Review

Sky Vegas is a solid site. It’s simple, fun, and has a great welcome bonus. I would have liked to see a little more with regard to loyalty promotions though. As noted previously, this brand was my first introduction to no deposit bonuses 10+ years ago. It was also one of the first brands that offered a multitude of sections—bingo, poker, sportsbook, casino—and excelled with all of them. After a decade, I would have liked to see a few more giant leaps forward, whether that be in the form of an original promotion or feature, or simply a glut of loyalty offers and free games (like the long-running Super 6 attached to the sportsbook). Even the slot selection is modest. 400/500 games was standard for a casino over 10 years ago, but now it’s not enough. Sky Vegas hasn’t gone backwards, but it hasn’t taken many steps forwards either. It’s a good site, but perhaps not the trendsetter that it once was. [publishpress_authors_box layout="ppma_boxes_9936" user_id="4"]
