Rumors about converting the closed Gala Bingo Club into a church gained a lot of criticisms from the local residents of Upper Norwood (South London). People extremely disagree to this plans that they even gathered as many signatures as possible for the petition. The Gala Bingo club in Upper Norwood is one of the many clubs that were closed when the company experienced financial challenged. Some residents said that they would prefer the place to be converted into a cinema rather than into a church. However, management reiterated that the proposed plans will have an avenue for the local community to hold training services, counseling services, youth meetings, and childrens clubs.

The closing of the Gala Bingo club in Upper Norwood made a big impact to the local community since a lot of residents in the area used to work for the club. Despite the community’s big loss, the government still doesn’t have any plans in assisting companies that were greatly affected by the worldwide crisis.

KICC Evangelical Church who acquired Gala Bingo in Upper London is currently based in Wimbledon. However, they want to move their church in Upper Norwood. Putting up a church in Upper Norwood will definitely help the community in terms of spiritual development. The church also has programs that will aid the local residents by providing trainings and counseling. However, due to the fact that a lot of jobs and tax revenues has been loss because of the close down, people are appealing to the government to put up something that will aid them financially.

Due to the criticisms of the church plans, City Screen is now planning of converting the closed club into a place where they could show art house and foreign language films. This can be a good alternative and for sure local residents will be following closely into this issue.
